Bring Your Outdoor Classroom To Life

Who doesn’t love learning outside the classroom? For many, classroom outings in the great outdoors are some of the most memorable experiences from their school years.

A Mendip instructor faces a group of students dressed in bright colours. They are facing the instructor while he is talking. They are standing in a woodland as the sun shines through the leaves, and a teacher wearing glasses and a striped shirt looks on.

With loads of activities perfect for school curriculums, we’re here to help design fun, engaging activity programs that support in-class learning. Our educational programs can be delivered as one-off sessions or over multiple days.

Learn how our activities help bring adventure to the outdoor classroom, build strong connections, and spend time in nature.

Learn About Ecosystems With Bushcraft (KS1/KS2)

Underpin classroom learning about nature and conservation with a Bushcraft session. Students spend time in the woods learning seasonal skills like shelter building, fire building and foraging.

With multiple educational threads to connect such as species, environments and human impact, Bushcraft sessions are just one type of outdoor activity we offer that ties in KS1 and KS2 ecosystem lessons.

Experience Local Rivers With Watersports or Walking (KS1/KS2)

Get up close to local waterways and discover the importance of our rivers. Try a new Watersport, learn about the water cycle, how rivers develop, and river-dwelling flora and fauna.

These sessions can be delivered from the bank or on the river, with options to go Kayaking, Canoeing or on a riverside walk.

Our Outdoor Classroom Rocks - and Caves! (KS1/KS2)

The geology of the Mendips is a golden opportunity for students to explore different aspects of rocks and their formation, history and uses.

Choose Rock Climbing, Caving or a Nature Walk to see the different ways geology manifests on the Mendip Hills, and supplement in-class learning with real-world examples and experiences.

Climate Change and You (KS1/KS2)

Explore what climate change is and take part in practical projects to learn about our impact and our positive action.

Many of our activities offer opportunities to learn about the different aspects of climate change and help students gain confidence and purpose in addressing it.

Students wearing helmets and buoyancy aids paddle down a scenic, grass and tree-lined river. The sun is shining and the group of students and instructor are paddling away from the comera.

History On Site (KS1/KS2)

The whole Mendip Activity Centre site is rich in history, both human and natural. Students can explore Sandford Levy, the historic mineral mine that became a secret station for a Home Guard Auxiliary Unit during the Second World War.

Combine a wide range of topics including history, geography, and science into one trip, or make a series of visits to consolidate in-class lessons.

More Than Learning

Outdoor learning does more than consolidate the in-class curriculum - it gives students the opportunity to try new activities, connect with their classmates and spend valuable time in nature away from screens.

Refresh and focus your students with an outdoor education day, and watch them bloom!

“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”

- Sir David Attenborough
