Mendip Support Olympic Hopeful

Mendip Activity Centre is delighted to sponsor local bobsleigh athlete Jens Hullah this winter. Jens, from Shipham, North Somerset, is representing the Great Britain Bobsleigh Team at the Europa Cup 2024.

Jens' passion for winter sports started during his time at Churchill Secondary School; it was as a student here that he learned to ski at Mendip Activity Centre. The experience on Mendip's dry ski slope led to a school ski trip in Austria and that enthusiasm has led him to pursue bobsleigh.

Bobsleigh has been a sport since “bobs” were first built in 1886 and were raced down icy, winding roads. It later became an Olympic sport in 1924, when Team GB won a silver medal.

'Having access to the ski centre enabled me to try out a new activity in the local area with everything I needed to practice for a unique activity' said Jens Hullah. 'I now want to give back by encouraging other young athletes in Somerset to try something that challenges them to learn a new set of skills.'

Jens' team currently stands 5th overall in the International Bobsleigh 2-man Europa Cup ranking, with 3 races to go.

"We are delighted to be able to support Jens on his exciting journey as a bobsleigh athlete," said Phil Turner, Head of Centre at Mendip Activity Centre.

Mendip is proud to support Olympic hopeful athletes and encourage a passion for outdoor activity and adventure. The Centre is open to beginner and experienced skiers and snowboarders 7 days a week this winter. You can book lessons or slope passes online here.

'Outdoor education is all about inspiring the next generation to get out on adventures - and Jens is doing just that!'
